Livestreaming Trends are Starting to Show Themselves

We've been talking for a while now about how particular sorts of videos seem to do better on one social live streaming platform than another, but now a general trend is starting to appear and we can suggest when you should live stream and when you shouldn't.

Unsurprisingly it's the absurd videos that tend to do the best. People want to see other people doing stupid things or just something out of the ordinary. It brings us pure joy and it keeps us watching a video when we don't always know how long it's going to last or what will happen. Buzzfeed's watermelon smashing video was one of the first videos to do well on Facebook Live. This makes you wonder whether absurd could be a good thing or a bad thing. A man recently streamed himself climbing up Trump Tower so he could meet the man face to face. It seems like a stupid move as it was dangerous but it still drew enough attention for him to get on the news.

The other types of livestreams that tend to do well are the disturbing ones. Videos showing people being shot or killing themselves, unfortunately, do rather well (not that we would recommend it of course). Maybe part of the reason people watch these is morbid curiosity but sometimes it's the only way to get the true story across. In this case, they're going to be more worried about the news not doing them justice. This is incredibly sad but unfortunately something that seems to be more and more common. It's due to this fact that the more disturbing streams tend to get a lot of views but it's probably not something you want to attempt yourself.

So what this is pointing to is if you want to be noticed, you have to do something different. This might sound obvious but it's true. If you're a band wanting to get noticed in a stream, then perform somewhere that will be noticed in real life and on a stream. If you just want to be noticed for steaming then be there when local news happens with your own take. Everything that's suggested to get noticed with a vlog counts here too. People want to see the absurd, you might not get as many views as the Chewbacca masked lady but hers was a phenomenon that can't be repeated, even with other Star Wars masks. And if worst comes to worst and live streaming offers you some protection, do it, even if you could disturb others. That video might get a lot of views too.
