50 Shades Better: Nerdism Meets BDSM in the Twittersphere

Cosmopolitan
A previously unrecognised Twitter account has been gaining traction leading up to the release of next film in the 50 Shades of Grey trilogy, 50 Shades Darker, set to release tomorrow, 9 February. The account is appropriately named 50 Nerds of Grey and features a picture of The IT Crowd co-star Richard Ayoade.

The series of novels written by British author E.L. James started out as a fan-fiction work based off of Stephanie Meyer's Twilight, the insanely-popular vampire/werewolf love series. 50 Shades of Grey, the first book, was released in 2011 and 50 Nerds of Grey was created in 2012. Since then, the account has released 486 tweets and roped in a whopping 293,000 followers.

Following the basic general principles of British author E.L. James' series of novels, the Twitter account has strong sexual overtones and is a bit shocking. The tweets center around all things nerdy.

Quite a few of the tweets have to do with the act itself.

Almost everything on the account is SFW (though some of the content is a graphic). The account takes portions of the book, fantastically twisting them from erotic to geek. From computer-enthusiasts who are drawn to technology to those passionately involved in nerd culture, 50 Nerds of Grey has a little something for everyone.

There's also a Facebook page.
